Achieving Regulatory Compliance with an Integrated PLM Solution
Challenge
EC POWER urgently needed a robust, audit-ready PLM system to ensure regulatory compliance, unify product data, and replace outdated design workflows within a tight five-month deadline.
Solution
Through a highly collaborative, expert-led partnership, TECHNIA delivered an out-of-the-box PLM implementation with integrated design management, data migration, and standardized processes.
Results
The project was successfully completed on time, enabling EC POWER to establish an ever-growing single source of truth and lay a scalable foundation for future growth and innovation.
EC POWER is a European company that develops and manufactures the XRGI® series of cogeneration systems, smart energy solutions that generate both electricity and heat from a single fuel source. These highly efficient, environmentally friendly compact units serve homes, schools, hospitals, and offices, offering a reduction in energy costs and carbon emissions. With over 12,000 units installed across Europe, EC POWER is driving the shift toward cleaner, decentralized energy production.
EC POWER partnered with TECHNIA to transform their PLM (product lifecycle management) capabilities under tight regulatory and operational timelines. The success of this transformation was grounded not just in technology but in a highly collaborative and agile working relationship, one built on mutual trust, transparency, and TECHNIA’s ability to guide complex change. EC POWER found in TECHNIA the depth of expertise and engagement necessary to achieve lasting results.
Fragmented systems call for an urgent PLM overhaul
EC POWER faced a few urgent and interlinked challenges that required rapid PLM transformation:
- Lack of structured change control and a single source of truth for product data across departments.
- Thousands of legacy CAD models in INVENTOR format requiring migration into standardized workflows.
- Limited design management capabilities hampering development of the XRGI® product line.
- A need for scalable, robust PLM processes to support ongoing innovation and growth.
- A fixed and demanding deadline to meet compliance and auditorial requirements.
Tailored 3DEXPERIENCE implementation drives transformation
Through close collaboration, TECHNIA and EC POWER co-created a focused PLM solution, combining expert guidance with deep engagement across teams:
- Deployment of a cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform integrated with the SOLIDWORKS design environment.
- Full implementation of design and engineering management workflows, where the OOTB (out of the box) solution is translated into EC POWER’s operational reality.
- EBOM (engineering bill of materials) management, document control, and change processes aligned with regulatory expectations.
- Strategic preparation for future MBOM integration and system evolution.
- Comprehensive CAD data migration from INVENTOR to SOLIDWORKS.
- Process harmonization and optimization based on best practices.
- Embedded training and knowledge transfer to ensure EC POWER’s full ownership of the solution.
- Five-week HyperCare support to reinforce adoption post go-live.
Agile partnership powers change across process and culture
The key to success lay in how the two teams worked together. TECHNIA embedded itself within EC POWER’s organization, applying agile principles, holding regular steering group meetings with C-level involvement, and keeping the dialogue open and focused. Where previous attempts had fallen short, this engagement brought clarity, momentum, and the right level of challenge to rethink and reshape processes.
Together, EC POWER and TECHNIA built not just a system, but a new way of working, one that aligns technology with people, process, and purpose.
“Our partnership with TECHNIA is paramount in optimizing our CAD and PLM infrastructure.”
