Challenge

Complex CAD/PLM integration with slow CATIA launch times, Java security concerns, and inadequate support.

Solution

myPLM V2 platform with Offline Sync, and Managed PLM Services providing seamless Teamcenter/NX and CATIA integration.

Results

30% time savings, enhanced security, greater cost efficiency, expansion from 50 to 100 users, with further adoption planned in other regions.

TECHNIA worked with an innovative global automotive supplier and a recognized leader in the development and manufacture of high-quality systems, including structures, mechanisms, hardware, and trim solutions for the heavy truck and bus sectors.

In close collaboration, both teams aligned to achieve the defined objectives, and together, implemented myPLM V2 through an end-to-end approach, spanning requirements definition, proof of concept, and integration with the existing PLM environment, while also establishing Managed PLM Services to ensure ongoing stability and support.

myPLM has streamlined our design and engineering workflows, providing a faster and more secure platform while reducing costs.”

Global PLM inefficiencies and CATIA, Teamcenter, CAD NX integration hurdles

The customer required several enhancements to their product development environment to optimize efficiency and security across their global engineering network:

  • Slow CATIA launch times and system performance bottlenecks reduced engineer productivity and delayed critical design workflows.
  • Reliance on Java created security concerns and complicated system maintainability, particularly important for an organization handling sensitive automotive designs.
  • The use of Teamcenter, NX and CATIA CAD tools, required sophisticated integration capabilities. Limited support and product performance had caused operational friction.
  • The OEM supplier package required was not readily available, necessitating workarounds that only provided approximately 70% of required functionality.
  • Integrating Teamcenter with CATIA using TCIC (Teamcenter Integration with CATIA) V14 was relatively seamless, whereas linking NX CAD through Teamcenter required more advanced engineering collaboration.
  • TCO (total cost of ownership) needed to be reduced for PLM operations, including Java licensing costs, CAD tool upgrade time, and OEM supplier package expenses.

Implementing myPLM ffor seamless multi-CAD integration

TECHNIA implemented a comprehensive myPLM solution with strategic services to address above challenges:

  • A proof-of-concept was proposed and TECHNIA team successfully demonstrated the full integration including both CATIA and NX tools with Teamcenter in myPLM.
  • The myPLM V2 platform delivers faster CATIA launch times, eliminated Java dependency for enhanced security, and provided a cleaner, more intuitive user interface for broader team adoption.
  • Four OEM subscriptions for CATIA and NX were implemented, along with myPLM Add-on Offline Sync, providing flexible deployment options and improved collaboration capabilities.
  • myPLM was successfully integrated with customer’s existing Teamcenter and NX infrastructure, demonstrating deep expertise in complex CAD/PLM environments. The central server repository provided an additional option for server-based CATIA installation, enabling flexible access.
  • Managed PLM Services were recommended and executed, leading to cost-efficiency and comprehensive support. This proactive service model includes continuous performance monitoring, quick issue resolution, and monthly meetings with customer’s leadership to ensure continuous feedback and support.
  • Requirements gathering, commercial negotiations, integration planning, and managed services setup were executed within 10-weeks.

30% Productivity boost and lower PLM total cost of ownership

The myPLM V2 implementation has delivered notable and measurable improvements:

  • Significant reduction in CATIA launch time, improving engineer productivity by an estimated 30%.
  • Complete removal of Java dependency strengthened security posture and simplified system maintainability.
  • Lower TCO compared to the previous PLM solution through eliminated Java licensing, reduced CAD upgrade time, and optimized OEM supplier packages.
  • 50 users onboarded successfully with plans to expand to another 50 users, demonstrating rapid adoption and satisfaction.
  • Cleaner, more intuitive UI and faster system performance received positive feedback from engineering teams.
  • Ongoing Managed Services with monthly leadership meetings ensure continuous performance optimization and quick issue resolutions. The engineering teams expressed high satisfaction with TECHNIA’s proactive and empathetic approach.
