How do you create thread standards using an XML file?

Follow these steps:

  1. Access the utility tool:
    • Open CATIA V5 and navigate to tools > utility.
    • Select the MigrateThreadStandardToXML option if you are converting existing text-based standards to XML.
  2. Create or edit an XML file:
    • If starting from scratch, use the standard definition editor available in CATIA’s admin mode. To enable admin mode, set up the required environment variables and directory paths for customized standards.
    • Access the thread category in the editor and either modify an existing standard or create a new one by saving it with a unique name.
  3. Define thread parameters:
    • Use the XML editor to specify dimensions such as pitch, diameter, and depth. Ensure values align with your required standards (e.g., ISO, ANSI).
    • For advanced customization, you can add new instances or suppress existing ones within the XML file.
  4. Save and apply:
    • Save the updated XML file in the designated directory (e.g., under the “thread” folder in your CATIA installation path).
    • Restart CATIA to load the updated thread standards. These will now be available in features like hole or thread/tap.
