How do you create and propagate broken views?
A broken view is a drafting feature in CATIA V5 that allows you to shorten the representation of elongated parts by removing unnecessary sections while preserving critical details. This feature improves clarity and optimizes space on technical drawings.
To create a broken view:
- Open the desired drawing in the drafting workbench.
- Select the view you want to modify.
- Click the broken view icon from the toolbar.
- Define the two clipping lines where the breaks should occur (horizontal or vertical).
- Confirm your selection, and the view will update with ‘break’ applied.
To propagate broken or breakout specifications across related views:
- Navigate to tools > options > mechanical design > drafting > layout > view creation.
- Enable the option for the propagation of broken and breakout specifications.
- Apply the broken view operation to one view, and it will automatically reflect in projection or auxiliary views as applicable.
