Simulations for Degradations in Oil Canvas Paintings

The presentation has its focus on providing the introduction to the simulations for predicting degradations in oil canvas paintings, which were developed as part of Collection Care project, funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (No 814624).

The discussed work has been concentrated on mechanical degradation of paintings under desiccations, in other words, decrease in the relative humidity (RH). The particular degradation condition of crack initiation in the multi-layered structures with different material configurations is investigated based on both full scale and micro-scale models, for which XFEM was adopted.
