How do you create equivalent dimensions in CATIA?

Equivalent Dimensions allow users to assign the same value to multiple constraints or parameters, such as lengths or angles. This feature is particularly useful for maintaining consistency across sketches or designs, as it eliminates the need to manually update multiple values when one changes. To create Equivalent Dimensions:

  1. Activate the knowledge toolbar
    • Ensure the knowledge toolbar is visible. If not, enable it via view > toolbars > knowledge.
  2. Select the parameters
    • In your sketch or design, select the parameters (e.g., constraints) you want to link with the same value.
  3. Use the equivalent dimensions command
    • Click the equivalent dimensions icon in the knowledge toolbar.
    • A dialog box will appear, allowing you to assign a value or parameter to all selected constraints.
  4. Confirm and apply
    • Enter the desired value or link it to an existing parameter.
    • Click OK to apply the equivalent dimensioning.

You can manage equivalent dimensions through the specification tree.

  1. Edit
    • Double-click on the equivalent dimensions feature in the specification tree to modify its value or linked parameter.
  2. Deactivate
    • Right-click on the feature and select deactivate to temporarily disable it without deleting it.
  3. Reorder or hide
    • Use contextual options like reorder or hide to organize your tree view.

NB

  • Equivalent dimensions cannot be used with parameters already controlled by formulas.
  • The feature is limited to length and angle parameters.
  • Complex dependencies may require additional validation to avoid conflicts.
