Can you convert a CATPart to STEP?

Yes, to convert a CATPart file to the neutral STEP format in CATIA V5, follow these steps:

  1. Enable the STEP license:
    • Ensure you have the ST1 (STEP Core Interface) license enabled. Navigate to Tools > Options > General > Shareable Products to verify or activate this license.
  2. Export as STEP:
    • Open the CATPart file in CATIA.
    • Go to file > save as and select STEP (*.stp) as the file format.
  3. Adjust export settings under tools > options > general > compatibility > STEP. Ensure the correct Application Protocol (AP) is selected:
    • AP203 for basic mechanical design.
    • AP214 or AP242 for advanced features like annotations and metadata.
    • Click Save to complete the export.
  4. Batch conversion (optional):
    • Use the batch management tool for bulk conversions. Access it via start > all programs > CATIA tools > batch management and select BATCH-DXF-IGES-STEP for automated processing of multiple files.
