Product Lifecycle Management 2.0

Dassault Systèmes has released PLM 2.0 for its new V6 platform. PLM 2.0 is a 3D online environment designed to enable users to experience products virtually and to enable Intellectual Property (IP) generation in all user interaction. The new V6 architecture will cover all brands in the company: 3DVIA, CATIA, DELMIA, SIMULIA and ENOVIA. Most new versions will be delivered during the month of May.

ENOVIA MatrixOne, version 10.8, released beginning of March, is the first product that is a V6-enabled solution to support PLM 2.0. In the bottom of the entire ENOVIA V6 architecture lays the former ENOVIA MatrixOne product line and it will manage and federate any PLM-related intellectual property in the extended enterprise.

– For users of ENOVIA MatrixOne, the transition to ENOVIA V6 is not a big step. They will as usual work with the ENOVIA platform that really is a natural extension to the former MatrixOne platform, explains Jan Thunqvist, Director of Products & Technology, Technia AB.

This means that our customers already now can begin to install the new release ENOVIA MatrixOne 10.8. That this version is V6-ready means that the customers that want to keep in sync with the latest releases can upgrade now, and feel certain that they have everything they need when it comes to infrastructure and information models in order to begin using ENOVIA V6 when launched in May.

An advantage with the new ENOVIA V6 is that the number of products will phase out/disappear, as for example MatrixOne, VPLM and SmarTeam. The entire PLM-solution will simply be called ENOVIA. This makes it easier for the customers to make their decisions regarding their PLM investments.

In the new version, the customers will receive the best from all parties - like scalable infrastructure, dynamic modelling and the collaborative business process applications Engineering Central, Product Central, Program Central, Sourcing Central, Supplier Central and Designer Central from ENOVIA MatrixOne, first class product structure management in CATIA from ENOVIA VPLM and finally pre-packaged role-based applications for the SMB market from ENOVIA SmarTeam.

ENOVIA V6 will generate great possibilities and advantages for our customers, especially for users of CATIA V6, where the new ENOVIA V6 also will be a pre-requisite for using CATIA V6 since file-based data storage will no longer be an option in. Our customers will also get access to the products that earlier were different and had various boundary intersections. Now, there will be only one product and it is called ENOVIA V6.

With ENOVIA V6, Dassault Systèmes shows that the company has a strong overall vision on the development of PLM. ENOVIA V6 is the framework and backbone for the company’s all other brands 3DVIA, CATIA, DELMIA and SIMULIA.

The synergies across all the brands
ENOVIA V6 also delivers a strong PLM infrastructure by leveraging the
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), i.e. an architecture where different products share services and interact with each other through standardized communication methods. The result is one of the most flexible, broad and powerful PLM solutions available today.

Dassault Systèmes will of course during a transitional period continue to support and develop the V5 platform in order to simplify for the customers to gradually transit to the new platform and preserve their investments in Dassault Systèmes products and solutions.

- We have already begun to install ENOVIA MatrixOne 10.8 and received many positive reactions. Our customers think that Dassault Systèmes has hit the jackpot in its product architecture. There will now be two major releases per year, and the customers believe that Dassault Systèmes is clearly heading in the right direction to bring about the most attractive product family on the PLM market.

What happened to ENOVIA SmarTeam for small and medium-sized companies?
Dassault Systèmes will in the long run replace the current V5 versions with V6. The new platform will simplify even more for everyone concerned to collaborate over functions, companies and national borders. The first ENOVIA SmarTeam role-based user interfaces will be available on the ENOVIA V6 platform during the fourth quarter of 2008.
